error: the initrd is too big...[no more!]
[I'm cross-posting this from an old website I'm shutting down from which] I've noticed that I'm getting a lot of hits every day for variations of search results along the lines of
"error: the initrd is too big"
along with "Ubuntu 9.10"
(obviously due to my previous posts on the subject.) Well, I'm happy to tell you all that I found the problem and am posting this while running Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala
[this also seems to be helping people in Ubuntu Lucid Lynx LTS 10.04
+ too, which I've since updated too!]
So here is the solution: Disable Memory Hole
in your BIOS! I've attached a screenshot. Over there is a small pic of what the menu for mine looks like (with the Memory Hole, forth option down, "Enabled"; BioStar TA690G motherboard). It's that little setting which causes so many headaches!
